Umbria welcomes all its visitors, not only with its beautiful towns and country-sides but also with its traditional
and historical festivals. “La corsa dei ceri” (The Candle Race)
in Gubbio , "la Quintana" (The Quintain) in Foligno, "il kalendimaggio" (The May Feast) in
Assisi, ”i giochi delle porte”, (The Games of the Doors) in Gualdo Tadino are among the most renowned
Umbrian
events. They transport the visitor from the Middle Ages to the Baroque in a never-ending dream.
Every town has its own small traditions and its characteristic festivals. Umbria is no doubt known world-wide thanks to
The Spoleto Festival of the two Worlds and Umbria Jazz. The first one takes place in Spoleto and was founded
by Giancarlo Menotti, a famous composer. It is an important event for the music, ballet, opera and theatre world. The second is a large
jazz event which involves the most famous artists for its kind of music and it transports not only Perugia but all of
the region in a very unique atmosphere.
Eurochocolate is another important event. During this festival it is possible to taste the best chocolates from Perugia and from all over Europe. You can also see many artists expressing themselves using the chocolate as their medium.
Every year Umbria creates new proposals for the local people’s pleasure and for the tourists who can enjoy their time in this most magical atmosphere of this region.
