Hermitage and paths of Monte Subasio (Assisi)
St Francis’ Hermitage, on a hidden slope of Monte Subasio, is one of the very first settlements of borning Franciscans, nothing but caves at the time, the rock and the wood being the roof where the Saint and his friars could retire in contemplation and prayer. This later became a convent astonishingly inserted in the deep green of a primary ilex wood, much preserved part of Monte Subasio thanks to the holiness of the place.
